2 DAY AVALANCHE COURSE FOR SNOWMOBILERS

THIS COURSE FOLLOWS THE GUIDELINES FOR COURSE CONTENT DEVELOPED BY THE CANADIAN AVALANCHE ASSOC.

This course is instructed by snowmobilers with emphasis on Safe travel, terrain recognition, and group safety in avalanche terrain

1 day classroom/1day in field

This two-day course will include 8 hrs. Of classroom instruction followed a full day in the field.  Emphasis will be placed on recognition of avalanche terrain, avalanche formation, safe travel and survival strategy.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

- TRANSCEIVERS 457 kHz only

Note: 2.275 kHz transceivers are no longer acceptable as they are not compatible with the new 457 kHz.  The new 457 kHz frequency is easier to detect with the human ear, due to this fact the 2,275 units are obsolete.

-          SHOVEL/ must be appropriate for avalanche use

-          AVALANCHE PROBE

-          First Aid / Survival Kit   Optional but recommended 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants are required to stay with the instructor at all times, individuals who travel off independently causing group instruction or control problems may be required to leave the course.  In this course group discipline is a given requirement.

1.      Course objective: To formulate a survival strategy for backcountry travel.
